The Ministry of SMEs and Startups held an "OpenAI Collaboration K-Startup Roundtable" at the Gangnam Startup Alliance on the 30th.

The roundtable was organized to share plans for collaboration events with OpenAI and discuss ways to create outcomes through collaboration. Thirteen AI-related startups selected through domestic preliminary rounds attended the event.

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups has confirmed that the final collaboration program with OpenAI will be launched at the company's headquarters in San Francisco in mid-March. Key details such as OpenAI developer meetings, K-Startup IR, and networking among attendees are currently under discussion.

At the roundtable, participating startups expressed their hopes to upgrade their services using the latest models from OpenAI before the final event.

Kim Hyun-jong, CEO of WeLaser, said, "We aim to upgrade the logic of our service using the GPT-4V API in our AI AGENT," adding, "In the market, it's important to provide better services faster than others. We hope to provide collaboration companies with the opportunity to use the latest model from OpenAI."

WeLaser specializes in developing a global logistics data management platform using Vision AI for automated input of shipping documents and AI agents.

Park Ji-hyuk, CEO of Waddle, also expressed his desire for broader access to new technologies such as the GPT-4 vision or speech model. Waddle is a company that extracts appropriate product information from shopping mall images to guide users through voice. They proposed developing services such as chatbot response generation and voice conversation support using GPT-4V from OpenAI.

Some startups also expressed their desire to seek networking opportunities with US OpenAI representatives, other US startups, AI experts, industry leaders, speakers, panelists, and networking opportunities among AI development startups. They also requested events reflecting the cultural characteristics of Silicon Valley.

Marina Chain, led by CEO Kim Da-won, is innovating the carbon accounting approach in the logistics industry using OpenAI's AI technology. They proposed developing PARSEAI for carbon data extraction and carbon accounting GPT using OpenAI's API.

Many companies are looking to enter the US market as an opportunity arising from collaboration.

Lee Dong-heon, CEO of A-Sleep, stated, "While the domestic sleep market is large, companies that quickly enter advanced countries such as the United States and Japan emphasize the importance of sleep," adding, "During this business trip (collaboration), I also want to create opportunities to kick off our entry into the US market."

Cho Jun-ho, CEO of Client, mentioned, "The scale of the US public procurement market is 900 trillion won. I want to know which companies are participating in the bidding process in the US," and added, "Policies may vary every week, but I plan to enter the bidding market starting with California." Client is a comprehensive solution company that applies AI technology to the bidding process.

Ji Kwang-chul, CEO of Next Payments, said, "We are preparing to enter North America this year. When we go abroad, I want to ask (OpenAI) about the possibilities of how our smart store technology can be integrated and enter the market in the United States," and added, "It would be great if we could also identify companies for further collaboration and investment."

Next Payments, a company that develops AI retail solutions for next-generation offline stores, requested collaboration with OpenAI in areas such as strengthening multilingual support and automating customer service through APIs.

Lim Jung-wook, director of the SMEs and Startups Ministry's Venture Office, promised to carefully review the startups' requirements and urged them to prepare well to appeal to themselves attractively in the United States.

Director Lim stated, "Korean engineers, VCs, and other networks in Silicon Valley are impressive. I plan to invite them and create opportunities for introduction," and added, "For this purpose, please prepare to pitch your company most attractively in English. You are the companies selected by OpenAI."
